Exploring new mediums to create: Fragment of Sky
Share
As an artist, I’m always interested in exploring new mediums and styles. Although I do love drawing using the stippling technique, I recently found myself drawn to something completely different: watercolour and gold leaf.
It all started when I created pieces for the Incognito Art Show, I decided to experiment with watercolour and gold leaf, and I fell in love with the process. The fluidity and unpredictability of watercolour was a complete contrast to my usual stippling technique which focuses on precision and detail. The unpredictable way the paint moved across the paper was scary but also very fun. Then came the gold leaf, delicate, luminous, and bold all at once. I love the process of hand embellishing with gold and the resulting depth and shimmer is so beautiful.
After finishing my Incognito pieces, I wasn’t ready to let go of this new medium. That’s how Fragment of Sky was born. Fragment of Sky is a tiny, dreamy piece that captures the essence of my creative detour. The soft blue watercolour background represents a peaceful sky, while the delicate 24k gold plant branch stretches upward, to place focus on the beauty of nature.
This artwork is about fleeting moments and the importance of taking time to stop and breathe. Life moves fast, but often the most precious moments are when we stop and reflect, when we notice the light, the texture, and the perfection in nature. This artwork is a gentle reminder to pause and appreciate the beauty in the world around us.
This piece is a little different from what I usually create, but that’s what makes it exciting. It’s a reminder that stepping outside of our comfort zones can lead to something beautiful. Whether it’s through stippling, watercolour, or a completely new medium I haven’t even tried yet, I know I’ll keep chasing that feeling of artistic discovery.
I hope Fragment of Sky brings as much joy to its new owner as I felt while creating it. You can purchase this artwork here.
