Showcasing my art at the Sydney Disability Expo
Share
This past weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to both speak and have a market stall at the Sydney Disability Expo.
The Expo is such a unique space. It’s packed with people from all walks of life, people with disability, families, service providers, advocates, and creatives like me. There’s a real buzz in the air. It’s a mix of sharing ideas, and celebrating all the different ways people live.
My Talk "The Art of Adapting"
On Saturday, I was invited up on stage to share my story, I spoke about how I found my way back to art after my spinal cord injury, how creativity became my lifeline, and how it’s now my career. I spoke about adaptation, and the joy (and occasional chaos) of running an art business.
My Market Stall
When I wasn’t on stage, I was at my market stall chatting with people, showing my work, and generally having a great time. I had everything from my stippling pieces to some of my more colourful, alcohol marker artworks on display. I sold lots of mugs, plus prints, cards, a couple of notebooks.
Why I loved this event
The thing about a space like the Sydney Disability Expo is that it was not just about showcasing and selling my artwork, it was about connection. I met so many wonderful people and I came away feeling inspired, grateful, and a little tired (in the best possible way). A big thank you to everyone who came to my talk, stopped by my stall, or even just waved as they went past. You made my weekend great.
