My Yellow Budgie Artwork
Share
I started creating my Yellow Budgie artwork not long after my Pop passed away. It was a very sad time, and like I often do, I turned to drawing to help me process something that’s hard to put into words.
My Pop loved budgies, especially yellow ones. There was something about them that brought him so much joy. I remember the way he would watch them, like nothing else mattered in that moment.
In this artwork, two little budgies sit cuddled together on a branch, their tiny bodies gently leaning into one another. It’s a simple scene, but it holds a lot of meaning. It’s about the quiet comfort of knowing you belong beside someone.
For me, they represent the steady, uncomplicated kind of love that you have with family.
Growing up, that closeness isn’t always something you notice in a big way. It lives in the small things, the presence of someone beside you, the feeling of being supported without needing to ask. When someone you love is gone, it’s those small moments that stay with you the most.
Belonging isn’t always something we talk about, but we feel it. It’s being with people who make you feel safe and understood, exactly as you are. It’s knowing you have a place beside someone. It’s the quiet reassurance that you’re not alone.
This artwork became a way for me to process, to reflect, and to honour my Pop. It’s about family, love, memory, and the quiet, powerful feeling of belonging.
