Exhibiting Veiled Communication at Firstdraft

I’m so proud to be part of the Firstdraft 2025 Auction, returning for my fourth year to exhibit alongside an incredible community of artists. This annual fundraising event supports Firstdraft’s vital artist-run initiatives, and it’s always an honour to contribute work to such an important cause.

This year, I submitted an original black-and-white drawing titled Veiled Communication, created using a mixture of stippling and scribbling. This piece speaks to a universal experience of miscommunication. The idea behind Veiled Communication is summed up in a single question: Have you ever felt unheard or unseen when you were trying your hardest to speak your truth?

This drawing explores the complexities of human connection, the frustration of being misunderstood, and the pain of feeling disconnected even when someone is right beside you.

It’s about those moments when something important goes unsaid… or when, despite our best efforts, we just can’t see where the other person is coming from.

The original artwork is available for purchase through the Firstdraft Auction site, and if you are curious to see more, I’ll be posting a full video tour of the gallery space on social media soon. (Spoiler: there were so many stunning pieces, and I loved seeing how different artists approached their work.)

Thanks for being here, and thank you for supporting artists and the spaces that allow us to thrive.
